The XDP XD1042 is a direct-fit replacement engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor for the 6.0L Powerstroke. The ECT sensor reports coolant temperature to the PCM, and a failing one can cause hard starting, poor running, incorrect gauge readings and fuel economy problems.
